my dad is a geek!…..calgary newborn

Ok, seriously, do you not love this baby’s onesie?!! I fell in love with it the minute I saw what it said….and even more so, loved that fact that Mom and Dad wanted to photograph their daughter in it! So awesome. This session was completely laid back and couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Mom and Dad didn’t hold back in showing the love they felt for their new addition and this little babe just took it all in.
The light wasn’t completely on my side, but we worked with what we had. I ended up shooting 75% of this session in their kitchen!! Turned out to be a wonderful afternoon.

Yellowknife NWT Sessions Available!!

Do those little skinny trees in the image below look familiar to all you YK peeps?? Well they should! lol :)

I will be coming up to Yellowknife in about a month and am offering up a few sessions while I’m there. Space will be limited. Availability will be between July 3 & July 12. One good thing…there will lots of light!

I must admit I’m looking forward to the daylight. Besides family and friends, I think that is the one thing that I do miss about Yellowknife (’cause I’m not gonna lie, there are a lot of things that I do not miss lol!). All that light in the summer…..soon enough I will be living it. (along with all the mosquitos! ACK lol)

I’m only up in the good ‘ol North every couple years so if you’ve ever considered a session with me….now is your chance. We’ll experience the unlimited light and bugs together!

Sweet Newborn

Back in March I received a call asking if I’d like to donate a session to the Calgary Flames Wives Charity Auction. Of course I had to say yes! And from what I hear the auction was a complete success, raising more than double last years total with this year only being the second one. How awesome is that! Eagerly I awaited the call for this teeny sweet newborn to make her appearance. She was born a few weeks early and ended up being an angel during the whole session. I LOVED that she learnt how to suck her thumb for the first time while I was there to capture it.

This blog post is a long time coming. I have wanted to capture a birth for a soooooo long now. When my sister told us last fall that she was expecting her 3rd baby I couldn’t have been more thrilled! Not only to have a sweet newborn in the family, but because I knew I’d finally get my chance. Uh oh, there was one issue…..we were to be flying to Mexico 2 days before the due date for my brother’s wedding!!! As the days grew near, all I kept thinking was that the baby would come while I was gone. Luckily my sister wanted this captured as badly as I did so she did everything in her power and tried ever old wives tale (including 3 rounds of acupuncture) to convince the baby to make an early arrival. I was literally shaking with excitement when I finally got the call “I think my water just broke!!!” 4 days before we were to hop on the plane. Yeah!!!!!

I just have to say that words, not even the images can describe how truly amazing it was to be there to witness the birth of my niece Emry, as well as the love between my sister (Tamara) and Jeff. I could go on and on trying to tell you, but for now I’ll just let you watch and hopefully I’ve captured this in a way to at least show a little bit of the emotion filled, miraculous day.

The show is set to music so make sure you turn up your speakers.

WARNING There are some shots that do show more than you might be expecting to see. ahem hahaha. Honestly though, I must admit that the doctors arms and bodies were quite strategically placed to allow for viewing without seeing too many details. lol There are only about 4 shots of the whole show and the images are small enough that you really don’t see anything….at least to me lol. So there, you’ve had your warning, but please do watch.

So I’m not sure how many people out there know what a full session can look like so I thought I’d share. I love the way this session turned out….why?…mostly because this gorgeous Mommy was willing to do the session outside, rain or shine, clouds or snow. What more could I ask for, that’s perfection! Enjoy!
