So, yep, that’s what this is. A self portrait challenge.
My amazingly talented friend Dana and the fabulous Tara were the brains behind this. What is this u might ask? This is the 2nd challenge (I didn’t participate in the first one) of a series of challenges that originally started between 2 awesome ladies. They then put it out there for other photographers to join in…..to get out there and try things that they don’t typically do and then share them on their blog for others.
I had no intentions at all of joining in…not with the first challenge. I didn’t think that I’d join in on any others either…until I saw what this one was all about. Self portraits. I wanted to do it, but there was nothing pushing me to actually attempt it. I knew that it would be hard. Let me tell you, hard is an understatement! Actually doing it was just a thought until I saw this website yesterday. NIRRIMI PHOTOGRAPHY WOW! Suddenly I was completely inspired and had the push I was looking for to actually attempt the challenge. (take a look at her site, simply amazing art AND she is only 16!!)
With all these great intentions I set out to create the visions that were popping into my head…..
Nothing turned out like I thought it would. Nothing. I bow down to those out there that make self portraits look so easy! In the end, the visions that were in my head did not make it very far. The images I did create, well, they were not expected. In the end though, I am happy with what I created. These are no where near perfect (which is hard for me to let go of). Technically speaking, and personally. No one is perfect. This challenge pushed me to let go and embrace the imperfections, to stretch my imagination and to feel the inspiration and just go with it.
